Maternity leave in Georgia: this guide explains the applicable rights, rules, documents and procedures using official sources.
Georgia's Labour Code distinguishes maternity leave from parental leave.
How much leave is paid?
Paid maternity leave is 126 calendar days, or 143 days for a complicated birth or twins. Parental leave is 604 days (587 in those special cases), of which 57 days are paid. Consecutive paid maternity and parental leave therefore totals 183 or 200 days.
How much is the benefit?
The combined state benefit is capped at GEL 2,000 in total; it is not a monthly payment. If both employed parents use the leave, the benefit is allocated between them without increasing the overall cap.
How do you apply?
The employee submits an application and medical sick-leave certificate to the employer. The employer completes the financing documents and submits them to the Social Service Agency under the current procedure. Two weeks' notice is required for parental leave. The father may also use qualifying days not used by the mother as provided by law.
